Shuffle Says: “Trick of the Light” The Who Who Are You

Chic-Fil-A and BSA have gotten some press lately and as a former patron of the two and a soldier in the war on awesome, I feel compelled to say just a few words on the matter.

I’m not gonna state my views on human rights or rehash the story because you all either already know it and if you don’t, it’ll take you about 30 seconds on google to find out. Go ahead. I’ll wait.

Politicians are going to do what they’re going to for good or for ill, but honestly it’s not their place to legislate assholery. No, what I wanted to comment on are the ways in which I’ve been seeing the civilian population make a stand.

From standing outside individual stores, to trolling reviews, to posting memes saying ‘eat no chikn, to simple no longer spending your money to fund organizations led by bigots; This is how we fight. This is why artists and writers and groups like Anonymous are the heroes of our generation.

We live in a pluralist country and if a major business owner like the president and owner of CFA want to come out and state his opinion he’s allowed to do so. If a private organization wants to only take custom from a certain color or creed or sex they are allowed to do that as well. It doesn’t make them less of a cunt. And we as human beings have a moral obligation to make a stand.

I love Chic-Fil-A. It’s tasty shit. My brother and I used to get chicken biscuits for breakfast every time one of us was about to travel. To this day we bait each other with Sunday morning texts saying how nice Chic-Fil-A sounds about now. We are also both Eagle Scouts and look back on our woodland trysts (ahem… I mean totally manly backpacking expeditions) and mouth to mouth lessons (life saving merit badge) and bondage extravaganzas (by which I mean knot-tying competitions) with great fondness.

That’s right we are both straight(ish), white(ish), country singin, Shiner chuggin, Texan-bred, Chic-Fil-A eatin’, Eagle Scouts.

And we both know better.

This is why it is so goddamned important we speak our minds. It’s why we pull shit like THIS and join groups like this and write things like this and share them with the people we know.

This is how we fight.

This is how we change the world.
